Guest WiFi terms of use template

The terms a guest accepts on your WiFi login should be short enough to read on a phone, specific about what you do and do not promise, and kept separate from any marketing permission. This template is written for that screen.

What should guest WiFi terms of use say?
Who provides the network, that access is free and can be limited or withdrawn, what guests may not do, that you do not guarantee speed or security, how long sessions last, and where your privacy notice is. Keep marketing consent out of it: accepting terms must never subscribe anyone to anything.
Not legal advice. This is a starting point, not legal advice. Laws on guest networks, data and marketing differ by country and state. Have it reviewed by someone qualified where you operate before you publish it. Replace everything in [square brackets] and delete anything that does not apply.

Guest WiFi terms of use
[VENUE NAME] guest WiFi: terms of use
Last updated: [DATE]

1. Who provides this network
This WiFi network is provided by [LEGAL BUSINESS NAME] ("we") at [VENUE ADDRESS]. By connecting and accepting these terms, you agree to them for this visit.

2. Free, limited access
Access is free for guests of [VENUE NAME]. We may limit speed, session length or the number of devices, and we may end access at any time, including during busy periods or for maintenance. Each session lasts up to [SESSION LENGTH], after which you may be asked to sign in again.

3. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the network to break the law, to infringe anyone's rights, to access or share illegal content, to send spam, to attempt to access other devices or our systems, or to interfere with other guests' use. Our acceptable use policy is at [LINK TO ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY].

4. No guarantee
The network is provided as is. We do not guarantee that it will be available, fast, or free of interruptions, and we cannot guarantee the security of a public network. Do not send sensitive information unless the site or app you are using encrypts it.

5. Your responsibility
You are responsible for your device and for what you do on the network. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of it.

6. Your data
When you sign in we collect the details set out in our privacy notice at [LINK TO PRIVACY NOTICE]. Accepting these terms does not sign you up to marketing. Marketing messages are sent only if you tick the separate box to ask for them.

7. Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version. Questions: [CONTACT EMAIL OR PHONE].

Plain text, free to copy and edit, no sign up. Last reviewed 7 October 2026.

What to change before you use it

  • [SESSION LENGTH] should match what your network actually does. If you use VoqadoWiFi, that is the session length on the location.
  • Remove clause 2’s device limit if you do not limit devices. Do not promise anything the network does not do.
  • If your venue is age restricted, add a line that the network is for guests of legal age and keep the portal’s age gate switched on.
  • Clause 6 is the one people get wrong. Keep the terms checkbox and the marketing checkbox separate, and leave the marketing box unticked.

Questions

Do I legally need WiFi terms of use?
It depends on where you are. Many venues use them to set expectations and limit liability. Ask a local adviser whether they are required for you.
Can accepting the terms also opt guests in to emails?
No. Treat them as two separate decisions with two separate checkboxes, and leave the marketing one unticked.
How long should the terms be?
Short enough to read in the login window on a phone. Link to the full acceptable use policy and privacy notice rather than pasting them in.
