Captive portal not showing on iPhone
An iPhone opens the login window only when its own check, a request to captive.apple.com, gets the wrong answer. When the window does not appear, either that check is getting through, or the redirect is going somewhere the phone cannot load.
Causes, in the order to check them
1. The phone is already authorizedOmada and UniFi
The controller still has a session for this iPhone from an earlier visit, so the check succeeds and there is nothing to show. This is the system working.
Open Safari and load any plain http:// address. If the real site loads, the phone is online.
Nothing to fix for guests. For testing, use a phone that has never joined, or wait until the session length set for the location has passed.
2. Auto-Login is switched off for this networkPhone
iOS lets a user turn off Auto-Login per network, and then the login window does not open by itself.
Settings, WiFi, tap the info button next to the guest network, and look at Auto-Login.
Turn Auto-Login on, or open Safari and load any http:// address to trigger the redirect manually.
3. The walled garden lets the iPhone’s check throughOmada and UniFi
If captive.apple.com or a broad wildcard is on the pre-authentication list, the iPhone gets the answer it expects and decides it is online.
Read Pre-Authentication Access (Omada) or Pre-Authorization Access (UniFi). It should contain only www.voqadowifi.com and voqadowifi.com.
Remove everything else. The walled garden page explains why the list is so short.
4. The portal domain is missing from the walled gardenOmada and UniFi
The iPhone is redirected correctly but cannot load the page, so the window opens blank or closes, and many guests describe that as “it never showed up”.
Watch closely after joining: a white window that spins, or flashes and closes, points here.
Add www.voqadowifi.com and voqadowifi.com to the list on the portal bound to this SSID, save, and rejoin.
5. The guest pressed CancelPhone
If the login window is dismissed, the iPhone stays joined to the network with no internet and no window. Guests read this as the WiFi being broken.
The WiFi icon shows connected, apps say there is no connection, and no window appears.
Forget the network and rejoin. A small sign near the WiFi name that says “If the login does not appear, forget the network and join again” saves staff a lot of explaining.
