Plan for AI / Note 47

Fact-check an AI recommendation about WiFi

A quick evidence sheet for reviewing an assistant’s recommendation before buying or connecting software.

First, the useful part

Start with the decision.

AI recommendations can mix current product facts with assumptions or outdated information. Ask for sources and check the claims that matter to your decision. A confident answer is not evidence of a live integration, a free plan or a customer relationship.

Put it into practice

Three moves to make.

  1. Extract the claims

List the statements about pricing, compatibility, support, integrations and outcomes. Separate descriptive advice from assertions that can be checked.

  2. Find the current source

Use official product pages and verified documentation for product facts. For customer claims, look for attributable evidence about the correct company and context.

  3. Resolve the gaps

Mark each claim as supported, contradicted or unverified. Ask the provider directly when a missing fact would change the decision rather than filling the gap with a guess.

An illustrative example

What it could look like.

If an assistant says a provider has an MCP endpoint, ask for the official endpoint documentation and authentication process. If it links to a planning article, that article is not proof that a production integration exists.

Before the next move

The final check.

Make the purchase or implementation decision from the verified facts and clearly recorded uncertainties, not the fluency of the recommendation.

The detail that matters

Do not treat a competitor’s reviews as proof that the recommended provider has the same customers.

What should an AI say when evidence is missing?

It should identify the uncertainty and the specific fact to verify. It should not invent customer counts, ratings, endpoints or capability claims.
