Ruckus Unleashed captive portal: guest passes and Hotspot services

Unleashed runs its controller on the access points themselves, and guest access is built in. This guide covers what Ruckus documents and is explicit about what we could and could not read.

Not supported by VoqadoWiFi. Written from Ruckus documentation read on 7 October 2026.

Does VoqadoWiFi work with Ruckus Unleashed?
No. VoqadoWiFi does not support Ruckus Unleashed today. Ruckus’s Unleashed help has pages named for guest WLANs, guest passes, guest pass self service, sponsor approval and a Hotspot service. In Ruckus WISPr terms, a Hotspot sends guests to a login page hosted on an external web server.

What Unleashed is and who runs it

Ruckus Unleashed is a Ruckus wireless product with its own help documentation, separate from ZoneDirector, SmartZone and the Ruckus One cloud. Each of those products documents guest access in its own way, so check which one your access points run before following any guide.

Ruckus publishes Unleashed help pages for guest access. When we tried to read them on 7 October 2026 the documentation site refused our reader, so for Unleashed this guide relies only on what the official page titles name, and it says so wherever that applies.

Does Unleashed support an external captive portal?

Unleashed has a page titled Creating a Hotspot Service. In Ruckus terms a Hotspot service is WISPr, and Ruckus’s WISPr application note, written for ZoneDirector, explains how that works: an unauthenticated guest is redirected to a Login Page hosted on an external web server, and the login page sends the guest’s username and password back to the controller’s own login address, http://<controller>:9997/login or https://<controller>:9998/login.

The controller then checks those credentials against the authentication server you chose: a local directory, Active Directory, LDAP or RADIUS (Ruckus recommends RADIUS). The same note describes a walled garden for destinations guests can reach before logging in, a session timeout after which the guest must log in again, and an idle timeout.

Two cautions. The application note covers ZoneDirector, not Unleashed, and because the Unleashed pages could not be read, we cannot confirm field by field that Unleashed exposes the same settings. Check the Hotspot service screen on your own Unleashed version before you plan around it.

If you are choosing between Unleashed and Ruckus One

Ruckus One, the cloud managed option, documents a portal type called 3rd Party Captive Portal (WISPr) with a Captive Portal URL and an Integration Key, plus an Accept All Connections option, which is off by default and needs MAC auth bypass to be off. Its other portal types are click-through, self sign in, host approval, guest pass, Cloudpath, Active Directory or LDAP, and SAML.

That is a different, documented integration path from Unleashed. VoqadoWiFi supports neither today.

VoqadoWiFi and Ruckus Unleashed: the honest status

VoqadoWiFi does not support Ruckus Unleashed today. VoqadoWiFi works with two controller platforms: TP-Link Omada and Ubiquiti UniFi. On those, the controller sends each new guest to the VoqadoWiFi login page as an external captive portal, and VoqadoWiFi asks the controller to open the network once the guest signs in.

This page describes what Ruckus documents, so you can decide what to do with the hardware you have. It is not a setup guide for VoqadoWiFi, and nothing on it means VoqadoWiFi works with Ruckus Unleashed.

How access is granted, as documentedForm post from the guest browser. After the guest signs in, the guest browser posts a small form back to the access point or router, which then opens the network.

On Unleashed the documented hand off is a username and password checked by the controller, so VoqadoWiFi would need either a shared venue account on the controller or a RADIUS service, and it would need to be proven on Unleashed hardware. Neither has been done, and there is no date.

If you are choosing hardware now, the TP-Link Omada setup guide and the Ubiquiti UniFi setup guide show exactly what VoqadoWiFi needs. If you are keeping your current hardware, its own options above work today without us.

Ruckus Unleashed questions

Is Unleashed the same as Ruckus One or ZoneDirector?
No. They are separate Ruckus products with separate documentation. Ruckus One documents a 3rd Party Captive Portal (WISPr) type; ZoneDirector is covered by Ruckus’s WISPr application note.
How does a Ruckus WISPr login page log a guest in?
In Ruckus’s ZoneDirector WISPr note, the external login page sends the username and password to the controller at http://<controller>:9997/login or https://<controller>:9998/login, and the controller checks them against a local directory, Active Directory, LDAP or RADIUS.
What guest access pages does Ruckus publish for Unleashed?
Official Unleashed help pages are titled “Guest WLANs”, “Generating and Delivering a Single Guest Pass”, “Enabling Guest Pass Self-Service”, “Requiring Sponsor Approval for Self-Service Guest Pass Authentication” and “Creating a Hotspot Service”. Their bodies could not be read on 7 October 2026, so this guide goes no further than those titles.
Does VoqadoWiFi work with Ruckus Unleashed?
Not today. VoqadoWiFi supports TP-Link Omada and Ubiquiti UniFi. Leave your email below to hear if that changes.
