Make it easy for guests to connect to your WiFi with a QR code. Display it in your venue, and guests can scan it with their phone camera to join your network without typing a network name or password. It is a fast, contactless way to get people online.

Generate Your QR Code

You can create a WiFi QR code with our free WiFi QR code generator. Enter your network name (SSID), choose the security type and add the password if your guest network has one. The generator creates a QR code you can save as an image and use on menus, table cards, posters or anywhere guests will see it.

Current iPhone and Android phones can read WiFi QR codes directly from the camera app, so guests do not need to install anything.

How Does a QR Code Work?

A QR code is a pattern of black and white squares that stores a small amount of text. A WiFi QR code stores your network details in a standard format that phones recognize, which looks like this:

WIFI:T:WPA;S:YourNetworkName;P:YourPassword;;

T is the security type (WPA for a password protected network, or nopass for an open network), S is the network name and P is the password. When a guest scans it, the phone offers to join that network, so nobody has to read a password off a chalkboard.

Two security tips:

  • Only ever put your guest network in a QR code, never the network your staff, tills or cameras use.
  • If you change the guest password, reprint the code. An outdated code is a common reason guests cannot connect.

Getting guests online quickly also creates marketing opportunities: showing your offers, collecting email addresses from guests who want to hear from you, and growing your following on social media.

WiFi QR Codes and Captive Portals

A QR code gets the guest onto the network. If your guest network uses a captive portal, the phone then shows your branded login page, where the guest accepts your terms and can choose to join your email list. The two work well together: the QR code removes typing, and the portal turns the connection into a relationship.

Many venues with a portal run an open guest network with no password, so the QR code simply contains the network name with the nopass security type. We cover the details in restaurant WiFi QR codes and captive portals.

Free WiFi Signs For Your Business

WiFi signs are a familiar sight in hospitality, but used well they do more than tell people a network exists. In a restaurant, hotel, bar or shop, a clear sign with a QR code and one line about what guests get makes your venue feel more welcoming.

Signs matter because guests value free internet. Even with 4G and 5G, many people prefer WiFi to save mobile data, and indoor signal can be weak. A visible sign advertises an amenity that appeals to leisure visitors and to people looking for somewhere to work.

A branded sign is also a chance to bring your brand into the guest's experience. Paired with a WiFi marketing platform, it becomes the first step toward a guest list you own.

Our free Guest WiFi Growth Kit includes signage copy guests can follow, written for tables and walls. Enter your email at the end of this article to get it.

Place your WiFi sign where guests spend time or naturally look:

  • High traffic areas where customers linger, such as seating areas, bars and lounges.
  • Entry points near doors and windows, where people notice them as they arrive.
  • Tables and counters, where guests settle in and reach for their phones.
  • Hotel rooms and lifts, in clear view as guests arrive.

Think like your customer: walk through your venue and notice what catches your eye at each stop.

Turn Connections Into Customers

VoqadoWiFi adds a branded captive portal to Omada and UniFi guest networks, so every QR scan can lead to your welcome page and an optional email signup, with consent recorded separately.
