Launch well / Note 02

Set guest WiFi acceptance criteria

Make the launch decision with a repeatable acceptance checklist instead of a quick glance at a welcome screen.

First, the useful part

Start with the decision.

A rendered portal is only one part of a successful visit. Acceptance should cover the complete path from finding the network to using the internet and reconnecting later. Assign an observer who can record what happened without interrupting the tester.

Put it into practice

Three moves to make.

  1. Test the first visit

Use a venue-owned device that has not completed this pilot flow. Record network discovery, welcome display, field entry, submission and an ordinary browsing check.

  2. Test the return

Disconnect and reconnect according to the proposed session policy. Record whether the experience matches what staff will tell guests; do not assume all devices remember the same state.

  3. Test the recovery

Try the documented help path when the welcome does not appear. Confirm staff know where to escalate and what details to collect without asking for private browsing information.

An illustrative example

What it could look like.

An acceptance row might read: Android phone, front seating area, first visit, welcome displayed, submission completed, public webpage loaded, observer initials. Keep failures as separate rows rather than averaging them away.

Before the next move

The final check.

Launch only when the named owner accepts the results and unresolved failures have a documented response. Store the completed checklist with the pilot brief.

The detail that matters

A single successful phone test does not demonstrate that every guest device will connect.

Should the acceptance checklist include marketing?

Check that the marketing choice is understandable and that its recorded state is correct. Evaluate campaign performance separately from network acceptance.
