Launch well / Note 01

Write a guest WiFi pilot brief

A one-page brief that gives your first guest WiFi test a purpose, an owner and a clear stopping point.

First, the useful part

Start with the decision.

A pilot becomes hard to evaluate when the team changes the login, network and campaign at the same time. Begin with one guest journey at one venue. This brief is an operating proposal, not a promise of a particular conversion rate.

Put it into practice

Three moves to make.

  1. Name the decision

Write the decision the pilot will answer: can guests complete the proposed welcome on the devices you expect? Keep marketing growth as a separate follow-up question.

  2. Bound the test

Identify the guest network, test window, venue owner and person authorized to make network changes. Agree which working configuration will be restored if the pilot fails.

  3. Define the evidence

Record attempted connections, completed logins and observed failures. Include the device and location for each failure so the team can reproduce it.

An illustrative example

What it could look like.

Example brief: test the café guest welcome before opening on two venue-owned phones. Pass when both can connect, reconnect and browse. A failed device test pauses rollout; a pretty login page does not override that decision.

Make the idea concrete.

Before the next move

The final check.

End with a written go, revise or stop decision. Keep the evidence beside the decision so the next shift understands why it was made.

The detail that matters

Do not change the working guest network during a busy service just to make the pilot more realistic.

How many venues should a first pilot cover?

Start with one venue that represents your intended setup. Expand only after the team can repeat the connection test and explain the support process.

Put the welcome to work
