Choose with confidence / Note 38

Request evidence from a WiFi provider

A concise evidence request for turning marketing claims into things your team can evaluate.

First, the useful part

Start with the decision.

A confident buying decision needs more than a list of logos. Ask for evidence that is relevant to your deployment and distinguish a customer reference from a fictional demonstration. Respect the privacy and permissions of the provider’s customers.

Put it into practice

Three moves to make.

  1. Prioritize the claims

Choose the claims that would change your decision: compatibility, support, reporting or the guest journey. Do not request an entire private customer database.

  2. Specify useful evidence

Ask for a documented configuration, a live task demonstration or an authorized reference with a comparable setup. Explain why that evidence matters to your venue.

  3. Record the limits

Note what the evidence establishes and what remains untested. A successful demonstration in another environment does not prove your own installation will work unchanged.

An illustrative example

What it could look like.

Request template: “We operate [environment] and need [task]. Please show the supported setup requirements and demonstrate the task. If a customer reference is available with permission, a similar venue would be most relevant.”

Before the next move

The final check.

Use the same request with shortlisted providers so the comparison is fair and repeatable.

The detail that matters

Do not count a recognizable logo as proof of an active customer relationship unless the context supports it.

What if a provider cannot share a customer reference?

Evaluate the available documentation and demonstration honestly. Lack of a reference does not justify inventing one or treating unrelated reviews as substitutes.
