Free WiFi marketing software, and the two questions that decide it
Plenty of guest WiFi tools have a free tier now. Fewer let you keep the guest's email on that tier, and none we checked will send your marketing for free. Here is each one against its own pricing page, so you know which free you are getting.
The two tests
WiFi marketing is two jobs. A free plan is only free WiFi marketing if it does both.
1. Does the free plan keep the guest?
The login page has to collect an email address, with the guest’s permission, and keep it somewhere you can reach. A portal that only shows terms, or that keeps analytics but no contacts, is a free captive portal. That is useful, and it is a different thing. Our free captive portal guide covers it.
2. Can the free plan send them something?
A list you cannot email is a spreadsheet. The question is whether the free plan sends a welcome, a review request or a campaign, or lets you export the list to a tool that does.
Every vendor against both tests
| Platform | Free forever plan | Keeps guest contacts free? | Sends marketing free? | What it costs instead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VoqadoWiFi | Yes | Yes: email capture and CSV export; on the explicit consent form (default for new venues) marketing consent is a separate, unticked box | No: campaigns, automations and Mailchimp sync are on Growth at $49 a month | Capped at 1 location and 500 logins a month; Omada or UniFi only |
| GoZone WiFi | Yes | Yes: social and email login collects email addresses | No: automated campaigns start on Essentials at $39 a month | The free plan is an ads based login |
| Purple | Yes | Not listed: data capture is what Capture adds to Connect | No | Capture and Engage are priced by quote |
| StayFi | No | Only alongside its paid WiFi service | Email free up to 200 contacts with an active access point or PMS integration | The WiFi service starts at $19 a month and needs StayFi hardware |
| CaptiFi | No | No free plan; Lite is the cheapest paid tier | No free plan | 30 day trial needs a payment method |
| Spotipo | No | No free plan | No free plan | 14 day trial, then per location pricing |
| Beambox | No | No free plan | No free plan | 30 day trial, then plans billed yearly |

What VoqadoWiFi's free plan does, and does not do
Starter is free forever and takes no card. It puts a branded login on one venue’s Omada or UniFi network, collects first name and email, records the WiFi terms and the marketing choice separately with the exact wording the guest saw, and lets you export the list as CSV.
It does not include email campaigns, automations or Mailchimp sync; those are on Growth at $49 a month for three locations and 5,000 guest logins. Campaign sending is also being switched on account by account while our sending domain is verified, so we do not promise that any plan sends today. If 500 guest logins a month is not enough, guests still get online; the WiFi is never switched off for going over the allowance.
So the honest use of the free plan is this: set the login up properly, see who signs in and how many tick the box, and export the guests who said yes. Our guide to how WiFi marketing works walks through the whole loop.
When free is the wrong choice
- Your access points are not Omada or UniFi. VoqadoWiFi will not work on them. GoZone and the paid platforms support far more hardware.
- You want marketing email running from day one. Every platform here charges for automated campaigns. Budget for the paid tier you will actually use.
- You have no plan to send anything. Then you do not need WiFi marketing at all. The portal built into your controller can show terms or a password for nothing.
- Ads on your login would cost you more than the subscription. A venue that has invested in how it looks should not hand its first screen to someone else’s advert.
Getting value from a free plan in the first month
- Ask for two things only: email and first name. What guest data to collect explains why.
- Keep the marketing box separate and unticked. A smaller list of people who said yes is worth more than a bigger one you cannot email. Guest WiFi and privacy rules has the detail.
- Put a QR code or a table card where people sit, so guests find the WiFi without asking. The free QR code generator makes one.
- At the end of the month, count sign ins and opt ins. That is your own evidence for whether a paid plan is worth it.
