Welcome better / Note 16

Run a WiFi welcome design review

A practical review agenda for aligning the brand, the guest task and the implemented form.

First, the useful part

Start with the decision.

A design review works better when the team agrees what it is judging. Separate visual preferences from observable usability problems. Ask reviewers to complete a task before commenting on the palette or the photograph.

Put it into practice

Three moves to make.

  1. Review recognition

Show the welcome without explaining it. Ask which venue it belongs to and what the guest believes will happen when they use the main button.

  2. Review interaction

Use the keyboard, a small phone and the available error states. Check labels, focus visibility and the difference between selected and unselected choices.

  3. Review the handoff

Compare the approved design with the actual implementation. Confirm that button labels, optional choices and success messages still describe the real behavior.

An illustrative example

What it could look like.

A review note should say “The optional choice looks required because it shares the required-field styling,” rather than “Make this cleaner.” The first observation identifies a specific problem that a designer can resolve and a tester can verify.

Your working brief

Make the idea concrete.

Use these five prompts with your team. The downloadable text worksheet includes the prompts, practical steps and review check. Save it, edit it or print it.

Before the next move

The final check.

Close each finding with a concrete retest. A visual preference can be recorded separately without blocking a working guest journey.

The detail that matters

Do not approve a static mockup as proof that keyboard, error or small-screen behavior works.

Who should attend a welcome review?

Include someone responsible for venue operations, someone implementing the page and someone unfamiliar with the design who can attempt the guest task.
