Run a pre-send email quality review

A repeatable final check for links, language, audience and the experience after the click.

First, the useful part

Start with the decision.

A pre-send review should catch expensive mistakes without becoming a debate about every adjective. Use a consistent checklist and separate the author from the final reviewer when practical. Test the actual message that will be delivered.

Put it into practice

Three moves to make.

  1. Verify the audience

Check the intended segment, exclusions and permission basis in the sending system. Confirm that test records and staff-only addresses are handled as intended.

  2. Follow every destination

Open the main action, supporting links and preference routes from a test message. Check the mobile destination, current prices or details and the reply address.

  3. Read for expectation

Compare the subject line with the body and destination. Remove promises that the venue cannot deliver and confirm the operational team is ready.

An illustrative example

What it could look like.

A test message can reveal that a “Reserve a place” button opens last month’s event. Catching that mismatch is more valuable than polishing a decorative sentence. Record the exact draft approved and who approved it.

Before the next move

The final check.

Send only the approved version. If a material detail changes after review, repeat the affected check before launching.

The detail that matters

Do not assume a preview in the editor is identical to the delivered email.

Should I test an unsubscribe or preference link?

Verify the available preference route using a designated test contact and the sending platform’s documented testing process.
