Launch well / Note 08

Run your first-week WiFi review

A short operational review that turns early observations into a manageable next action.

First, the useful part

Start with the decision.

The first week is for learning how the guest journey behaves in your venue. A small number of connections is not enough to establish a universal conversion benchmark. Combine counts with staff observations and clearly separate a network issue from a marketing choice.

Put it into practice

Three moves to make.

  1. Gather the same window

Use one agreed date range for connection attempts, completed logins and support notes. Record which counts are actually available and leave unavailable measures blank.

  2. Sort the observations

Group issues by welcome display, form completion, reconnect behavior and staff questions. Keep marketing opt-in observations in a separate section.

  3. Choose one improvement

Pick the most reproducible issue and assign an owner. Decide what will be checked after the change, then keep other settings steady until that review.

An illustrative example

What it could look like.

If staff repeatedly explain the same field, rewrite that label and test comprehension. If the welcome never appears on a test device, investigate the connection path first. These observations need different owners and should not be merged into a single “conversion” problem.

Your working brief

Make the idea concrete.

Before the next move

The final check.

Compare the next period using the same definitions. Record any change in opening hours or event mix that makes the comparison less straightforward.

The detail that matters

Do not turn a small first-week improvement into a public claim of proven revenue growth.

What is a successful first week?

A repeatable guest journey, a staff team that knows how to help, and a clear list of observations with owners are useful early outcomes.
