First, the useful part

Start with the decision.

A venue may own access points while a contractor controls the management account. Hardware names alone do not explain who can authorize changes. A useful inventory connects the equipment, management arrangement and people responsible.

Put it into practice

Three moves to make.

  1. Record the environment

Ask the administrator for the controller family, deployment type and relevant versions. Record the guest network name and which locations it serves.

  2. Locate responsibility

Name the account owner, the support provider and the person authorized to approve a change. Keep credentials out of the inventory; record where the approved access process is documented.

  3. Confirm compatibility

Compare the actual environment with the current integration guide. Mark uncertain items as questions for the vendor instead of treating a familiar brand name as proof of compatibility.

An illustrative example

What it could look like.

A sample inventory can say “UniFi environment; controller type to be confirmed by our network partner.” That unresolved item is useful: it identifies the next question before the venue commits to an installation plan.

Before the next move

The final check.

Finish with a short list of confirmed facts and open questions. A vendor should be able to use it to explain what needs verification.

The detail that matters

Do not publish the inventory with management addresses or access details on a public page.

Does a supported hardware brand guarantee compatibility?

No. Confirm the controller arrangement, version and configuration requirements for the specific integration before planning the change.
