Write a guest WiFi rollback brief

Decide how to return to a known working guest experience before beginning a change.

First, the useful part

Start with the decision.

A rollback brief makes the recovery decision explicit. It should identify the known working state, who can restore it and the test that proves recovery. The exact network actions belong to the authorized administrator and the relevant vendor documentation.

Put it into practice

Three moves to make.

  1. Describe the known state

Record the working guest journey and reference the administrator’s approved configuration backup. Make clear which configuration the team means by “previous.”

  2. Name the stop signals

Choose observable reasons to stop, such as a failed acceptance test or running past the approved window. Avoid an open-ended instruction to keep trying until it works.

  3. Verify the restoration

After the administrator restores the approved state, repeat the agreed guest connection checks. Tell staff which experience is active and record any remaining issue.

An illustrative example

What it could look like.

Example stop signal: two agreed test devices cannot complete the guest journey by the cutoff. The venue owner calls the stop; the administrator restores the documented state; the observer records the recovery test. This is a planning example, not a controller command sequence.

Before the next move

The final check.

A rollback is finished only when the restored experience passes its checks. Retain both the failed-change observations and recovery results for the next attempt.

The detail that matters

Do not improvise recovery by changing staff or payment networks to provide temporary guest access.

Can a marketing team own a rollback plan?

It can coordinate the brief, but the authorized network operator should define and execute the technical recovery steps.
